Bodies do not trim each other completely

I was going through the weldments tutorial and encountered this problem.

A couple of trims were to be performed earlier and I was successful.

I have to trim the upper left corner with the vertical member as bodies to be trimmed and boundary being the top face of the horizontal member.

When I try to perform it as guided by the tutorial, I don't get the preview and not able to build it.

The error shown is 'Bodies do not trim each other completely. Please check your input.'

I have attached the picture and the file. Please have a look and clarify the problem.

Correct Answer

Uncheck "Allow Protrusion" for group 3

And then you should be able to trim/extend fine

I believe the problem is that you're trying to trim two bodies to two different faces. Break that Trim feature into two separate ones and I believe you'll have better luck.

Dear Glenn,

As said I tried breaking the Trim into 2. The trim option for the horizontal members still work fine.

But trimming the vertical member (extending it till the top face of the either horizontal member) does not work.

I am yet to try the other 2 suggestions from fellow members. Will update if I am successful.

Dear Deepak,

Thanks for answering the query. I have tried your suggestion and it appears to work fine.

But nowhere in the tutorial, it is mentioned to uncheck Allow protrusion.

according to the tutorial you dont need the trim feature. check the corner treatment as shown here

Tony, all different options to trim (either in the group corner treatment like you've shown) or additional trim feature are shown in that per the tutorial. I believe that is just to show the various options allowing you to pick the one that works best per requirements.
