I have a 500 assembly project. Unfortunately, as I insert sub-assemblies into the main, a primary component of the main, disappears on screen. Other related components remain on screen as before. Why?

Greg,

It is very difficult to understand what exactly your problem is without screenshots or your assembly and part files. It sounds as if this assembly can't be uploaded because of size limitations. So, the best you may be able to do here is to post some screenshots.
I am going to take a stab in the dark and suggest that you go to the programs menu of the computer and run SolidWorks RX. This sounds like a graphics card issue, but then as Matt said without more information we really can't be of accurate help.
Good point Jim,
I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking something like having "Section View" selected could cause something like this. But, it is much more likely something like a video card driver issue, as you mentioned. But, we're just guessing without more information.
I downloaded new graphics driver (NVIDIA 377.11) yesterday per solidworks Rx suggestion ---- didn't help. The problem is interesting. I can insert some components (and sub-assemblies) into the main assy without having a primary component (btw: it's always the same component, and only one) disappear on screen --- Seems like there is some relationship between the component that disappears and a few of the sub-assemblies that cause the problem.
When you say "disappears on screen" do you mean the component becomes hidden, or suppressed or deleted?
Does a Ctrl Q return visibilty?
Is the component used in any of the sub-assys?
Does the problem exist when creating a new and smaller assy?
Can you post the 'problem' component here for review & testing?
I occasionally have a similar problem where, when inserting a part, if I scroll in on the assembly the assembly just vanishes and if i scroll back out it reappears. Happens seldom and doesn't appear repeatable after I make my mate and save but I think it sounds like the problem Greg is having. Never happens when I have time to document it. I think I need to get the video program Dan Pihlaja uses so I can document it sometime.

2 things:
Thanks for all the input! I no longer have the original (problematic) assembly file. In my attempt to find a solution, I deleted most of the sub-assemblies from the original main assembly and re-inserted them, albeit with a different sequence. That did the trick ---- Have no idea, why it worked. Didn't change a thing on any of the sub-assembly files.
Thanks ---- Control Q worked! That said, after rebuilt assembly with a different "insert part" sequence, all components including sub-assemblies were visible, however, when I inserted a duplicate sub-assembly (same one that caused problem at the get go), the same component disappeared. Fortunately, "Control Q" brings the component back
