what is the port used for? Corporate IT is asking what is the source URL which uses this port. I can't find this information anywhere
This port is used by SOLIDWORKS client machine to ping/connect with the server machine when using a networking license.
SolidNetWork License (SNL) Manager
All Flexnet license managers use two ports. The first one 25734 is used to initialize the connection then the vendor daemon runs on the second one. A lot of times the second one is random, unless you specify what it is. With SolidWorks it always uses 25735 unless to tell it to use a different one.
In order for the client machines to be able to pull a license the firewall needs to allow both ports to and from the server. Technically the communication is unidirectional from the client to the server. Most firewalls allow the reply to go through automatically, so you don't need to have bi-directional communication. I tell the firewall guys to open the port to the entire domain. They usually whine and moan about that, but they eventually do it anyways. The last thing I want is to have someone plug in at a remote location and not be able to get a license.
