hi, I have a multi body part that has some weldments, imported geometry and sheet metal in it. It was working fine and has a control q rebuild time of 2.8 seconds. The problem is when I modify a flange or any other modification it hangs and can take several minutes to re build and in some cases crashes,! I am a relatively new user so any advice greatly Recieved. ..

Thank you for the response. I have narrowed it down to the part that was imported, when I suppress it everything is fine! I am going to try and attach the part. We are a trailer manufacturer and it is a step file of the suspension a supplier has sent me, it has a couple of surface errors on it which I don't know how to fix so not sure if they could be the problem or just the file size?

I have done a pack n go to dropbox of the full file. I realise now I should probably have had the main chassis as an assembly but had that done before I went on the essentials course! Instead I have the chassis, suspension, drawbar, and floor on one part ( 30' Beaver tail) and in the assembly add the wheels, rams, tail piece ect.
I did trawl through the forum before posting but could only find one post similar and it didn't really explain it.
System is I 7 processor sw17 16 gig ram and an unsupported vid card, but it is a high end gaming card I have borrowed from my brother! (Geforce 690) which seems to run everything else fine. (I am going to get a Quadro P 2000 I think)

Hi Pete,
You may or may not know that gaming cards are not recommended for doing CAD. Whilst you'll get away with some cards, you find this forum is full of threads with people who have gaming or other unsupported cards and then have problems.

Yes I am aware 're the card issue. I will get the quadro card after the festivities! I have opened some big assemblies without any issues though but did wonder if it could be the card... it just happened my brother who works for me is a gamer and had his old card which we thought we would try.
Have you any thoughts on the p2000 card? I can't spend thousands on the card but budget is not too restrictive.

I don't have any direct experience with the P2000, but based on my experience using various Quadro cards, from the 600 to the 4000 level. I think it's a safe bet that the P2000 will be plenty of graphics for you.
As far as rebuild time goes, the graphics card usually doesn't make a big difference, I believe that's mostly tied to the CPU. If the step file has errors that keep it from forming a solid you could be dealing with a pretty complex surface model which might well be causing performance issues with your assembly. If you can post the file, (click "Use advanced editor" in the upper right corner, to get the option to attach a file directly to your post) someone can probably help you sort it out. You may want to put it in a new post.

I realise you probably want an answer to your problem straight away but there are numerous reasons this could be happening and without the part or assembly files to look at everyone would be just clutching at straws.......
