Hi all,
I was just wondering if many of the forum users here actually use the Solidworks 'Costing' function?
I know from experience that most companies will actually use an accounting package to facilitate their need for costings and inventory through to invoicing. Having said that, I was just curious as to how many SolidWorks users actually rely on or use the "Costing" feature?
Having a little bit of experience in this area, I found the tutorial for costing (SW2016 SP3) somewhat lacking, unclear and ambiguous. But, what I really want to know is if users have actually found it worthwhile to take the time to implement.
I guess I'm just seeking general commentary on whether it's worth setting up full on, or just give it a wide birth?
Dave.
Yes, I started using it for work projects. We do not use it for our large quantity production run items. We mostly use it for custom jobs that we are only going to do once. For our production run items we use the quoting/costing of our ERP system. We mainly use solidworks costing for estimation, not directly for quoting and are starting to develop it more as we go. It is a useful tool to help simplify large assemblies. Our ERP system is more accurate, but the amount of time require to input all 100+ parts just to make one assembly is time consuming. Costing also helps to make designs more cost effective. I would suggest to do the costing on each part then have the assembly add the individual components together along with welding or assembly operations.
