I have to import an assembly inventor to solidworks 2017 to make a thermal  simulation.

if I just open the iam and use it for sim all the parts are linked to the original file and cannot be deleted or changed in solidworks.

if I convert from inventor to step and then to solidworks I cannot save it because it says "Failed to save document".

It seems that is possible to open iam and ipt and employing in assembly but no way of importing to .asm and .prt and modify them. they cannot be saved as solidowrks files.

Is there a way to import inventor file and create a simulation?

update: the original files are inventor 2013 .
