I want to remove the red handle from the bronze block.
Can it be done using the two models in the attached assembly?

I think I would Insert the core file into the casting file and then do a Combine-Cut.
You would have a disjointed lump left over to delete in creating the Combine. (or you could elect to keep both bodies)
Other than a assembly I see no way to insert one model into another.
You've done this before.
If you have could you give me a hint on how to do this?
So now you have two different techniques, one in the part file and other in assembly.
Hint: (for part file technique)
..sure,..in the assembly, edit the casting,.. do a surface offset/copy/0.0 of the core surfaces which intersect your casting.. then do a surface cut..
Thank you both J. Mathers and Paul for teaching this old draftsmen a new trick.
I can't believe how far drafting has come since my first drawing using a T-square and a triangle.
The way I want to do this is using the part method.

If you do the Insert Part you will have to use the Move Body command to mate the planes together similar to the way you mated in assembly to position the core.
(see image below)
Or you could insert the core into a blank file and model the casting in position relative to the existing core position.
Once I got the core inserted into the casting and looked at your picture I have what I need.
