Beam Elements and Inertial Relief

Question asked by Aaron Gradeen on Dec 12, 2017

Hey Everyone,

I would like to confirm that SolidWorks cannot correctly apply inertial relief to beam elements. When I try to apply inertial relief to a structure which is not fully restrained, I get fairly large displacements. Upon checking the .OUT file of the study, I can see that SW simulation knows there is a force imbalance, but it does not apply a counterbalance acceleration. I also noticed it is not registering any inertia mass in the model. Is this just a shortcoming of using beam elements? Could this information not be calculated?

Thanks!
