John Stoltzfus Dec 12, 2017 3:37 PM (in response to Daniel Banana)You need to hang from the hook and have someone lift you up and down to get all the dimensions you need...
Why not go there and measure everything???

Rick Becker Dec 12, 2017 3:54 PM (in response to Daniel Banana)Daniel,
Do you have physical access to the treadmill crane in the picture?
If you do, grab a tape measure, pencil and lots of note paper and measure everything you can. Make sketches using the pencil and paper as clearly as you can.
Next...
Make a 3D model of each and every part. (this is where you will learn how well you can draw prints by hand and just how much info is missing)
Start an assembly and assemble you parts.
Come back here and ask specific questions when you get stuck. When you ask those questions, also post you files that show how far you were able to get. This way we can answer your specific question and you will learn something.

Daniel Banana Dec 12, 2017 4:01 PM (in response to Daniel Banana)actually I don't have access

Rick Becker Dec 12, 2017 4:03 PM (in response to Daniel Banana)Okay. You have a picture. Use your best guess at how large everything is and just keep it all relative.
It will be a much harder task as you will need to imagine what the parts you can't see look like and how it all interacts together.
Just remember how to eat an elephant...
One bite at a time.
Just make one part at a time and see how it goes.

David Matula Dec 12, 2017 5:49 PM (in response to Daniel Banana)way to cool of a project.
where to start....3d content central has a 3d guy.
I would find someone that has some wood profiles for the weldment feature and then get to work.
a pattern here a part here a part there.
one sub assembly 3 parts to make up this project. 16 hours of work depending on the pc that you have to work with and if you have some of the profiles needed....

Glenn Schroeder Dec 13, 2017 8:28 AM (in response to Daniel Banana)If you want to use weldments for this, as David Matula suggested, I have some lumber profile sketches I'll be happy to share.

I would like some I tend to just use structural members and get the weights all wrong and have to change designs mid build, cause things get to heavy.

Here you are. I believe these are relatively accurate. However, if your weights are wrong maybe you need to check the properties of the Material you have assigned to the Part. I know we can assign Material in weldment profiles now, but I haven't. Many of the profiles I use have more than one possible material anyway.

Thanks Glenn. Now the fun part of putting them in the right place so that they will work right. When is that user group meeting in your area going to happen?

Just out of curiosity, can I ask why the two major uprights are each constructed in two halves?
Dave.

J. Mather Dec 16, 2017 6:08 AM (in response to Daniel Banana)Standard size of lumber available in lumber yard here in the states.
Would have to pay a pretty penny to custom size that thick.
