I have applied an appearance to an assembly file, the appearance is a colour gradient
As the images below show, the appearance doesn't update when the part moves, is there a way to force this to update? or is it fixed from the time the appearance was added? which is my hunch as to what's happening here

Yep CTRL-Q nothing
You should be able do this in 2015. I created the gradient myself (shoestring method - create in powerpoint, then a snip into paint)
This is the second time I've run into modelling this stuff. The colour changes throughout the material and I need to model random chunks from random locations. It was a particuarly tedious manual process last time,,,
Well, I tried to look into it, but it seems that this is something that you can't do with SW 2015. LOL
But here are a couple of questions:
1) Can you somehow define an "origin" for the gradient. (I am guessing not, but maybe there is a way).
2) Can you apply the gradient to the assembly rather than the component? (applying it to the component would lock it into the component level.
(edit: it seems that you did apply the appearance to the assembly level, so maybe ignore this one).

3) Did you do a CTRL Q update after you moved the component?
