Hey all, I'm having a problem where I cannot seem to figure out how to only have gravity in a motion analysis affect certain parts. How can I single out parts that are effected by gravity? Thanks!
Is this a single part in the assembly? Does it have an "(f)" noted next to it in the feature tree?
The Gravity definition in Motion applies globally to your assembly. You couldn't have it single out just specific models. If there are models that are unrestrained in your setup you may want to either suppress them or fix them in place so they no longer move when gravity is applied.
Alternatively, you could also setup a linear motor definition (using acceleration values) in the Motion study with a value matching gravity then apply that only to the bodies you wish to have gravity applied to. This alternative could have some issues solving if the motor is defined on an object that is in a bound position but it might work for you (you would have to test it to see).
Interesting. Because when I run/calculate the motion study, there is a part that does not move. The other objects however, do fall.
yes, what does that mean? It is a single part in the assembly.
The "(f)" means that this body is fixed in space; it is disallowed from being moved. Gravity is being applied to it but the "fixed" condition is stopping it from moving as a result. If you wanted to have other parts in the assembly behave like this just right click on each of them and select "Fixed" from the right click menu.
Awesome thank you, this worked.
You can override the mass properties so that the parts you don't want affected by gravity have no mass
I'll try this if all else fails, thanks for the help.
