Is there a way to assign material to an assembly? I know there is for parts, but i would like to show the assembly material in the drawing shaft
The way I would show material in an assembly is to include a BOM with a material column. In a lot of cases an assembly consists of many materials, therefore giving it a single material property does not work very well.
In your scenario, you could add a 'Material' custom property to the assembly. You might look into the Custom Properties Tab for doing this consistently.
And how do i edit the standard bom?
right click a column header, insert column left, or insert column right. Select the header of the new column, select 'column properties' from the dialog that comes up. That will give you a new dialog which will allow you to assign any available custom property to that column.
Then i just save it as a custom table and use it instead of the standard one?
Exactly. I have multiple BOM templates depending on what the drawing is for and the information I want to show. Some very simple. Some with as much info as possible so I can export and copy into our QMS controlled BOM template. I dislike typing things more than I have to.
Thank you, that helped me a lot! I sure will have lots of BOM templates too, i dislike unnecessary typing too haha
why not assign the material at the part level??
this can then be shown in the customized BOM??
Yes, that is what i am going to do, actually what Bjorn said happens a lot, i do have plenty of assemblies with multiple parts with different materials each. Using the custom BOM with material sure does what i want
