Is it possible to have a leading zero for item numbers?
01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10
if so, how can you do it in a pre-existing .slddrw?
Just double-click the "item number" cell and type your leading zero. Ignore the dire warning message that comes up. Balloons will stay linked.
Yes, but it requires a custom BOM based on Excel.
I replied to this topic awhile ago with such a Excel file attached.
I'll have to rummage, but perhaps I'll find it and repost w/attachment (or a link to the previous post).
Thank You Kevin.
I only work with pre-existing .slddrw files,
and so the BOM is already on the sheet.
I wonder what/how would be the fastest/easiest way to edit the BOM,
just so that the item numbers and the coordinating balloons
have leading zeros?
it is available in your doc properties. edit it on your start file and it will always be that way until you change it again.
Thank You Newell,
but I am not working with any New documents,
I only need to be able to edit pre-existing documents.

Pretty sure this only applies to numerical values that happen to be in the BOM, not item numbers. I just set both those to "Show" and created a BOM. Item numbers are just 1-43 with no leading zeroes.
Yes, that's not for item numbers, but for part numbers instead.
Thank You Josh!
That was too easy, I don't know why I was afraid to proceed
past the "dire warning message". ha ha
Problem solved trail blazer!
