I was looking for a way to view the original creator of a part file and the revision history of who has made changes to it. Thanks
The best way of course is to use PDM software for your files. Document history will tell you who checked it out last and by looking at the version you should be able to tell what changes were made from the previous version.
If you do not have PDM then, depending on how your system is set up (how users log into their computers), you may or may not be able to get the creator.
First thing you can do is go to Files, Properties and select the Summary tab. It will tell you when the file was created and last saved/last saved by (so you will at least know the last user to save the file was).
To find creator, right click on a feature and select Feature Properties (some features do not display this option).
In the Feature Properties dialog, if the date created is the same as the created date found in the Summary Information then the user listed in the Created by field was the creator of the file (where I work this would be my work ID). The last modified date does not tell you who; just when a change was made to the feature.
If features were added by someone else then they username will be listed in the Created by and the Date created.
That is all I know; since we use SolidWorks PDM, I do not use this information much other than to get an idea of what version of SolidWorks the file was created in because older versions do not always play nice with today's version due to changes to a features functionality.
Hope this helps.
In a Conclusion for your feedback, I have another Question...
let us say that I'm working in two different parts and need different usernames for both, If the Original username of the computer make the design is "Acer" and then two files have been provided to "Acer" with different usernames such as "Admin" and "User". I realized that I can create a sub username to the Original Computer and let us say I named them as "Admin" and "User" and continued the design, then the Design tree will be named exactly as these two names individually.
The Question here... is there anyway to know that the Original user "Acer" did the design or it can't be?
The file properties of the file I opened has my login as the last saved by, not the computer.
But without PDM you would probably have to look at the feature history and feature properties to try and figure out who created the part to begin with.
When I created the sub username and saved the file, it was last saved by the sub username I created, not the original username.
What the PDM can do? May I know please?
To my knowledge, no!
PDM can show you the entire history of the file included who did anything all the way back to when it was created.
I am showing a test file that only the task host and I modified to protect the names of my users, but you should get the idea.
OK, let me put this up to the test, could you please tell me, who is the Original Designer of the Model I'm sharing in the Link below? The User Created the file is "Malak", and a sub user also created with the same name "Malak", But a different main user in different PC was modeling the design, could you please tell me the name of the main user who developed the Model under "Malak"?

From my experience, it cannot be determined. Looks like the model was created 11/06/2020 and the actual features 12/04/2020
And I'm pretty sure of what you are saying crystal clear but no problem, maybe Mr. Paul knows something we don't know Paul Wyndham
No, I can't tell you that because you don't have PDM so the files were not tracked in any management system that keeps track of what happens with a file. You can only know the complete history if you have some system in place that captures it in some fashion or another. SWPDM has an SQL database that stores all the historical information about the file and who does what to it.
If you need to know the history of a file you will need to figure out some way of recording it outside of the file itself.
In the case of the model you provided it appears that a user with the username Malak created all the features. The other person you mention, must only have modified the existing geometry without creating anything new. Since they did not create anything new, the name Malak is listed as the creator of all the geometry in the model. Without some external tool tracking the files you will never know if someone went in and modified someone else's file. You need a management system to hold your people accountable for their actions. Otherwise you need to manage folder permissions to such an extent that only the people that is designing the part has access to the files.
Appreciate your feedback with this valuable information Mr. Paul.
