Hi, I'm looking for a way to cut a solid around a cylinder. Something like "wrap" command but valid for complex shape with variable thickness.
I'm not sure if the end result will satisfy you bu i could think to use "deform" tool.
1. Draw an arch.
2. Draw a rectangle. Dim base as on screenshot to get the arc length as a rectangle base dim.
3. Extrude with desired thickness and make "stamp" extrusion as you wish.
4. Screenshot below shows "deform" tool with some selections.
5. Mirror the part to get whole cylinder.
EDIT: SW 2018 part attached.
That's very cool Krzysztof W.
That . . . is . . . AWESOME!
You should share that here - What are your most impressive tricks of solidworks, Please spread.
(If you haven't already, it's been a little while since I've scrolled through all of it.)
What is different between this method and the above method?
Great, it works!
Just wondering why half cylinder instead the complete one.... I tried to start from full circle ("Target Curves") but "deform" feature gives a wrong result in that case.
I belive it's because a circle don't have a start nor end point, and in this case it can give wrong results.
