I am new to SW2016 and I am trying to place a part in position in an assembly so that I can transfer locations from one part to another. I try to edit part A starting a new sketch then trying to convert entities from part B on top of it but the system will not select the edges of part B. Am I doing something wrong?
You can select edges & holes from other parts if you can rotate the assembly to get to what you want without selecting thru the part you are editing. You can also change the view to wire frame and can select anything you want from any angle.
Are you trying to select edges through part A? In other words, is part B on the other side of Part A and you can see the edges, but can't select them?
Try these two things:
1) Hold down shift when you are trying to make your selection (depends on whether or not you have the part transparent at the part level or the assembly level)
2) RMB and use "Select other"
First try to reload everything. Also it can help to use the selection filter. I personally keep that right at the top of my interface all the time.
And lastly, if your in a tool/function that doesn't allow a specific selection you won't be able to select it. Mates for example - you can create mates between parents, children, and siblings, but you can't make a mate with a sibling's child..... Yeah it sounds really gross when put that way, but it's a good way to remember that rule.
Is it because you already have something that references from other part in it? and don't have this option (4th from top) selected
Just be careful with it in long run:)
