Since SW has added bounding boxes to version 2018, I guess it's time I figured out what they're for. Would you guys please tell me what the purpose is of a bounding box and how you use it?
It has been around a while. it is a good tool for determining the minimum amount of stock material that is required to produce a part.
As an example, we used them on our tool designs to determine the stock block size we would need to use during setup.
it is as good a tool as you want to make it depending on your use.
a good walkthrough can be found here:
Thanks Newell, that explains it well.
I use them with weldments. I select a part in the cut list, RMB, and select create bounding box.
This will calculate the overall outside dimensions of that part and add the sizes to the cut list properties and adds them to the description. These I can use in the cut list, or BOM w/cut list, on the drawing.
Very helpful, Frank. Thanks.
