When ever I open Some files, it says "Can't open file C:\workspace\whatever..... Future Version."
What version of SW are you attempting to open? And what version of SW do you have? As the message states the model was created in a newer Year version that what you have available. If you or the person sending the file does do not versions so that your version is the newest you can have them send the file to you as a para-solid which will remove the version issue for you.
I drew these. Workstation crashed, installed all new with latest updates.
I will double check the updates and verify I actually do have the latest. I though this might be what it meant, but with new install, thought it was fine.
Thanks for the feedback!!
Well with the new information this isn't likely to be the issue unless you were working with a newer version and then mistakenly installed an older version when you updated.
Check here to make sure what version you are running.
It means the file you are attempting to access was saved on a version that is more recent then yours.
In exemple, if you use SolidWorks 2016 and the file you are trying to access was saved in SolidWorks 2017, you won't be able to access it because the version you are using is older then the one the file was generated on.
If you are receiving files from other companies, ask them in .step, this way you will be able to open it. Depending on your needs, you might have to modify it afterwards because steps only generate bodies. You can always use the feature recognition to convert it and have features that you can perhaps modify.
