I go to the design library and download the weldment profiles, it won't like me download them in the existing weldment profile folder so I created my own folder, I added that folder to the file location for weldment profiles but nothing else shows up except the default sizes. just wondering what I'm missing or not doing correctly.
If you don't want to mess with the folder structure the install created, or you don't want your custom profiles to go missing next time you upgrade your install, you can have a completely different location for weldments you download / create. As long as you maintain the correct folder structure, and as you point out, don't duplicate standards (folder names).
I prefer to have all my custom files outside the solidworks install area. A simple run of copy settings wizard has everything pointing in the right direction again in no time.
I had the same problem. I closed down Solidworks, went to my root folder, "Weldment Profiles" and did a "get latest version", restarted Solidworks and that fixed the problem.

The folder you point to under 'Tools', 'Options', 'System Options', 'File Locations', "Weldment Profiles" needs to have a very particular relative folder structure beneath it. It needs to have this:
...like...
Further, you cannot have duplicates of standards so if you have two folders listed like this:
...that both have "ansi inch" folders beneath them then only one is going to get recognized. You may want to make sure only one path is listed under 'File Locations' and that it points to the folder containing the folder that is the standard you downloaded. Or, otherwise, copy your standard into the default weldment profile directory after extracting it (sometimes it just can't extract to that location but will copy there just fine).
