I have a part with a complex sketched bend (as shown in the picture). The worry is that I can not make the bend. Can you help me?thank you in
Please add IGES or give more information. I am on SW 2017 so I cannot open.
I have to make two bents. The frst is already done but the second one is really complex (see attached files)
So if you can help.........
Thanks in advance§
looks like a basic sheet metal part...flatten it make the cuts and then add the bend back....
There is no cuts here! And it's not possible to make the bent before stamping.
That is made by Progressive Die Stamping like in the image below. Typically you form the stiffening ribs and bends at different stages.
SolidWorks will not flatten such a part. You will need to look for addins.
Thanks a lot Elmar!
It is a forming operation rather than bending.
Try to use forming tool or just manually create different stages.
As Elmar Klammer said this part is not really a sheet metal part. It will be formed in a progressive die and the gussets will be formed into the material either simultaneously or after the bend. As you have found out, the odd geometry makes it difficult if not impossible to draw with standard sheet metal tools because the sheet metal features in SolidWorks are for sheet metal fabrications not parts formed with coil based stamping processes.
In real world, I think you won't be able to bend the part with that sketch.
You have to add a extrude cut and bend the part in two steps.
And weld the gap after bending.
Flat pattern :
Thank you for your answer. But may be i'm not really explicit: this is a stamping step before the bent. So if i make the bent before, it's impossible to realise the stamping step.
But i have tried your solution: ok i can make the bent but after...
You could probably get a flat pattern if you use a swept flange. Form tools would take care of the ribs and dimples on the flat. But to show the ribs that wrap around the bend will take a little creativity, especially if you want them to show up in both the formed and flat config's. Anyway you do it will probably require a few features that are suppressed in each config.
