Hi, I am currently creating a pipe manifold and want to create a surface flatten on one of the branches so that I can create a template for a fabricator. However, the surface flatten feature is greyed out...any ideas on how to overcome this??
You're welcome Billy, please can you mark the enquiry as answered?
The surface flatten feature is a SOLIDWORKS Premium level feature, do you have Premium? Can you attach the part if so and I can take a look for you?
I am running 2016 Premium but have been able to carry this feature out at part level.
I would let you have a look at it if I knew how to (I am new to the forums and still getting to grips with it all).
Yes it is within an assembly.
If you need anthing else, just give us a shout.
Ok, you cannot use this function within an assembly, you have to use it at part level, or in context of an assembly (a part in an assy). Have a look at the attached files and see what you think. The only way this tube will flatten is to cut an edge out of it.
Phillip... It looks like Billy is using 2016.
Very sloppy of me, please see attached 2016 version.
Are you normally able to use surface flatten or is it just in this particular instance? The surface flatten tool is only available in SolidWorks Premium. If you are using Standard or Professional it is not available and will be greyed out.
Billy,, Since you cut the saddles at the assembly level I would suggest you save your assembly as a part then work with that. And as Phillip mentioned you will have to split the surfaces of each part/body (collinear with axis) in order to flatten and get your templates.
Right ok, that seems fairly simple enough, cheers. And thank you Philip for your help as well.
