How can I dimension this distance horizontally? Smart Dimension suggests everytime an angular dimension. Can I force a horizontal one?
If you don't use a "slot" centerline, you'll be able to. Turn off slot center marks
I would retreive the dimension from the model.
Thank you very much. I forgot about those options completely.
Works fine now
You do not need centermarks at all. Just select the arcs at the end of the slots.
I want to have the distance from the center points to draw a footprint where to drill holes. Therefore it is no use for me to click the arcs
one option is to select the centermarks one at a time, and change their angle to zero - then the dim tool will default to horizontal and vertical dims.
In that case I would suggest you use the method J. Mather recommended (importing the model dimension) because if that was my design intent I would have modeled the part that way. Otherwise you could show the sketch and dimension to the center point of the slots. Lastly I would use the method suggest by Jeremy Feist. I say lastly only because we had terrible experiences with center marks loosing their relations and not updating correctly if the model changes (if you have never had this issue then dimensioning to the center mark is fine).
