Does "File --> Save as --> Save as type --> Adobe Photoshop Files (*.PSD)
work for you?

Yes that method does work for me, however, I am struggling to figure out how to make the background on Solidworks white rather than the white/grey wavy mixture it is standard.
Is there a way of doing this so when I export it into Photoshop using the method you mentioned above the background stays white?
When you save the file, Click on the Options button and change to Print Capture. There is a Remove Background option that is checked (but can't be unchecked for some reason for the PSD format only).
With other formats the option to remove the background can be changed.
