Hi, I'm using PDM Standard. Is there a way to auto-fill my Description field on my Drawing Data Card with the same Description as is on the Part/Assembly Data Card?
Hi, I'm using PDM Standard. Is there a way to auto-fill my Description field on my Drawing Data Card with the same Description as is on the Part/Assembly Data Card?
I have SolidWorks 2017 and Standard PDM. I looked for a PDM Administration Guide online, but only see an Installation Guide. The mapping of variables doesn't appear to be in that manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Look under your installation directory, typically "C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS PDM\Lang\GB\Administration Guide.pdf"
Thanks again. I'm looking at the variable mapping and am not seeing what I need. I can set the variable and set up an entry in the card with a two-way relationship with the variable saved as a custom property. That's great, but I don't see how to have a drawing card read the description from the model card.
I see an option in the properties for the entry on the drawing card that is grayed out for "File data card variable". Is that what I want to use for this? If so, is this a function that's not included in PDM Standard?
Hi,
You need to look at the "Variable Mapping for SOLIDWORKS Example: Mapping Model Custom Properties ($PRPSHEET Annotations)" part in the chapter Michael Dekoning mentioned.
The magic is in the variable attribute block called $PRPSHEET, if it's not in the drop-down menu, type it in:
Remember the drawing will not inherit anything until you hit SAVE.
