Is it possible to put in a weld bead between edge flanges such as in the attached image? I know you can weld corners, but I need to have these flanges welded together.

looks like a standard butt joint, it is very possible and pretty typical weld joint. 
I'm not sure what you have going on there by the pic only. Would be nice to have your file. I suspect you are talking about a cosmetic weld bead.
Thanks, I tried doing this but didn't think it was possible as it didn't create a weld bead for me. It looks like you're doing the same thing successfully though.. :-/
The bead is probably there Ray, you just can't see it. Edit:.. Go ahead and accept that, then go to Hid/Show.
