I want to save a Custom Material to a part. But SWX refuses to save it because I no longer have SWX 2016. Where to find SWX administrator to run? I couldn’t see such a tool in SWX folder.
It's a folder where the material database is saved, not because of the SW release
Run the Tools > Options to find out where the material database is saved and make sure you have access to that folder
Also, if you want to run Solidworks as administrator, just do the following:
In your shortcut that you have on your desktop (or wherever it is....you can save shortcuts even on your taskbar now), RMB and select properties, then select this option:
Alternatively, if you have multiple shortcuts (one on your desktop, one on your taskbar and one in your Start menu), then you can go right to the source and RMB on your Solidworks.exe file and select properties and:
Just make sure that you are not actively running Solidworks when you do this.
Could you explain me about what is taking place behind the screen when SWX as administrator is checked marked?
One thing I notice that SWX main merely functioned as a single file. That means normally if I open any number SWX files it open inside this SWX main. When SWX as administrator is checked marked any number of SWX files will open as a separate file.
And other thing is when I open a file, which was created in the educational version. I got a pop-up window like this which was disappeared. No longer this window.
I actually don't know fully. I do know that Solidworks makes registry changes on a regular basis. Without administrator access, I am not sure how this is done. Maybe someone with a lot more knowledge will know.
Yes, it's more to do with permission of storing the values to window registry.
Some companies, the cad admin wants to control the setup on all SW license so this options is off
while others, like us, I let all users run as administrator so they can add extra setup to their SW; however, they have to run a "setup" macro to have a certain setups which set the company "standard"
