Is there any way to Configure "Instances to Skip" in a Pattern?

Hello,

So I have found I can configure just about anything in SW without having to resort to creating multiple of the same feature and just suppressing in different instances but this one seems to elude me.

I will often have patterns of holes and in Version A I will want for example only hole 1,2,5,6,8 while in version B I want holes 2,3,4,5,7

As far as I can tell there are two problems I always run into.  First off you can't ever instance to skip the first item in a set.

My workaround for this has been simple to create the initial hole off the part so it is essentially cutting nothing and then I am able to instance to skip whatever I want.

The 2nd problem and this is one I am wondering how to solve is "How do I configure the instances to skip so I don't have to create multiple patterns?"

Just for reference I am on SolidWorks 2012
