This would indicate damage to the install. The behavior you describe is caused if the DLL named "CSQuickTips.DLL" has is not registered. To register it go to a command prompt (search "cmd" in the Windows Start menu, right click "cmd.exe" and use "Run as Administrator") and run the following two commands:
regsvr32 “<Solidworks\simulation path>\CSQuickTips.dll”
“<Solidworks\simulation path>\Parametricobject.exe” /Register
For example on my own machine the full command along with file paths are these:
regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks\Simulation\CSQuickTips.dll”
“C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks\Simulation\Parametricobject.exe” /Register
Your own file paths will likely be similar but maybe not the same as these so locate the files before you put in for each command.
Thank you @Ryan Dark. Seems to have solved the problem
