Sketch fills gray when Solid model placed into drawing

I have inherited a project that involves converting an AI (adobe illustrator) Silk Screen into a drawing. I then inserted the drawing into the solid model I have and everything appears to be working OK. Then when I take the product and place it into a drawing (with the converted sketch above showing as a sketch), some of the 3D lettering fill themselves with gray. Then when I save this drawing as a pdf the gray filling turns to black and everything else in the sketch remains gray in good condition.

I have not seen this issue before. The issue appears to be with SolidWorks not the AI sketch conversion because the sketch appears in the solid model to be OK. I have attached a few images that refer to what I am experiencing for some of the lettering in my sketch.
