I know that I can copy and paste a model. But how do I copy and paste a part? When I follow the same workflow of copying and pasting the program says not responding for about 10 seconds and nothing happens.
Why dont you import the model/part that you are missing?
if I understand you correctly, you can hold ctrl and drag a part in assembly to create another instant copy
I tried holding ctrl and dragging, no luck. Are you talking about Visualize or Solidworks?
He is talking about SWx.
Opps ... sorry ... I thought SW
First question can you not do that in SWx and have the monitor file turned on, so that it updates?
The Model is unable to hold up in Solidworks fully due to mate issues and cables. I took the model as is for marketing purposes. I created several parts and cables inside of visualize from the basic shape creation to show what the final product would look like. I am unable to edit the current model in Solidworks and monitor the file. My typical work flow never goes backwards to Solidworks. In the past when I have updated files from Solidworks, everything goes haywire and I lose decal placements and parts shift on me. I do heavy editing in the Visualize program. I really like to stay inside of Visualize when I am this far along on a project.
That's what I figured, I just hoped I was missing a duplicate part button somewhere. thanks.
So, you're suggesting importing an identical model (and "retaining structure" upon import) , then deleting all of the extraneous parts until you're left with the part of interest?
Really? This is the only way to do this?
For the record, I have noticed that when a part is highlighted in the model tree, it is possible to "Copy" it, but the corresponding "Paste" command completely disappears....and, of course, Ctrl-V doesn't work either.
I think Alen was suggesting to just import the single part (or sub-assembly component) that Chris needed. Not the entire top assembly model (and certainly not with Retain Structure option). Whatever part Chris is looking for, can be imported by itself.
Yes; the entire set of interactions in the Model/Scene tree needs some good loving and it is absolutely on our radar to address these inconsistencies and holes.
I have never said that, I suggested he import a single part that he needed copied and not an assembly.
Late to the party on this one, but here's what I do:
- Copy the entire model
- Use the yellow Model selection tool from the Main Toolbar to select the newly copied model
- Without clicking anything, simply switch to the blue Part selector from the Main Toolbar. This is a trick I use to instantly select all parts at once.
- Hold down Ctrl and left-click on the part(s) you want to keep to deselect it.
- Hit Delete key to delete everything except that desired part(s).
That said, copying part(s) in Visualize is a commonly requested feature and therefore it's prioritized accordingly high
