This video shows to create mold using cavity and core. Core is with a shaft like extension.
The video is tinkering with the shaft after creating it properly. I couldn’t find out the reason. What is reason for that?

It would depend on the $ going in to the tool. is it a high volume tool? it would usually be put on a blank slide that is keyed a fixed half for running full auto. if it is low volume you could install it vertically as machined in the core plate if the part is short enough to strip off. otherwise a nice middle ground is turning it from hardened steel and building a carriage or nest but then a secondary fixture will usually be required to remove the part. Best to think of it from a manufacturing perspective. what is the benefit of putting a ball on the end? how will it be held/stripped? and how will it be made, cut to size? etc..

2 halves are core and cavity and shaft is like a "slide" to me
because it would be common practice to have that core pin turned out of hardened steel. there is no need to have a huge square base off the backside. Core pins are usually modeled similar to an ejector pin and then nested in the plate or mount in some sort of carriage block for pulling after molding is complete.
