Selective top level BOM mixed with indented cut list

    J. Connell

I have a situation where i have some parts in an assembly that are weldments and some are sub assemblies. I want to have the indented detailed cut list ability for the parts that are weldments but at the same time I'd like to not include all the subordinate parts that make up the sub-assemblies. I can do this by just excluding the lower level parts from the BOM however this makes proper ballooning impossible as when a point to a part with a balloon I get an astrix (meaning the part is not in the BOM) instead of the top level item number. Is there any way to force the balloon to point to the top level sub-assembly and no the lower level part?

      Thanks.

OK, figured it out myself so putting it here for anyone else with this issue:

Don't mark the subordinate parts as excluded from the BOM but rather expand the BOM table using the three arrows on it's left side then click on the icon for the sub assembly you want to collapse. This will collapse the sub assembly and revert all balloons from the parts level back up to the top level.
