    a36 Vs 1010-1018?

    Jeremiah Luoma

What is the difference between A36 and 1010-1018 steel?  What are the magnetic differences?

We are having difficulty finding a machinist who is willing to quote a electric motor rotor core with 1010-1018.

ANSI 1018 and ASTM A36 are both low carbon steel and  very much the same except the process of making is diff. (go to webmat site for more info.) - ANSI 1018 is more suite for making shaft. However, I recommend using stress-proof steel -  1144 - excellent material
