I have an assy with two kits in it (it save the positioning/locating problems): frame and parts
I don't fancy putting the frame in the parts kit and calling it a reference part only. It'll just bog the processor. I just want to have a configuration, and the BOM table just call the parts that are in that configuration.
Is that possible? Any ideas?

I think I've got it. You create a configuration, and suppress the parts you don't need.
Then on the drawing, just specify the configuration you want to use.
I did say 'I think'. So far it seems to work. I'll keep you updates if it causes problems elsewhere.

I do this all the time with assemblies.
In my PDM system, it's coded so that I can make "dummy" configurations. The reason is because I only want real parts to show up in the actual configuration but I want to show how these parts go together at the next level. I set up the components that aren't part of the real config and show them as phantom lines. The cabinet below is part of the "dummy" config while the hard line components are part of the current config and will show up in the EBOM.
In the lower pic, you'll see that (DRAW1) is in (), this is a code to our PDM system that says I can make this config and the PDM won't try and build a profile card.

You're on the money Martin. Configs and suppressing parts to suit will get you what you want without having to hide lines and over-ride values.
