How to link a part or assembly's description to a drawing template? I would like to have my drawing auto fill the description, (the same as used in a BOM)
It is easy to do, but it is also easy to learn by doing. Go to the SWX Help and search for Customizing Sheet Formats. You can link to whatever properties exist in the part or assembly the drawing is for, including custom properties.
Here is a screen grab of part of my drawing template. I went to Edit Sheet Format to get to this area.
This automatically fills in the Description from the part file for the drawing title, the part file name is automatically filled in for the DWG. NO., and even the configuration of the part file is shown, among other properties from the part file.
Lyal, this is how I automate my title block, I fill-in all of the needed information in the custom (or configuration if multiples) tab in the configuration section on the part under Custom Properties, the 2nd pic shows before adding part to template, and the 3rd pic is after adding the part to the drawing. The template carries over the information filled-in on the part. everything I need is in the part template. Of course if you have an older part, you'll need to add all of the information to that part first. I haven't selected a part number yet, but that would fit into the available space.
Good luck! As Dennis Dohogne mentioned, the help section under templates has a wealth of information on the subject.
Sorry, forgot to post template:
Please find the attached pics for your solution and these names have to give in each and every part. Hope your questions finds the solution from this.
