Hello SOLIDWORKS Power-Users and welcome the 9th WPUC!

During one of my custom training sessions, I had the opportunity to witness the fastest SOLIDWORKS user in "concert". His name is Philip Brown. Seeing Phil's hands working the mouse and the keyboard, while he is modeling anything in SOLIDWORKS, is very similar to watching the best pianist's hands in concert.

I am wondering if there are other Philips in our SOLDIWORKS Community.

This challenge is quite different than anything we had before, in many ways.

1. It will last longer and could continue even after the prizes are awarded.

2. It will have the biggest prizes awarded so far, considering that I will donate all my points to the winners.

3. It needs a camera to capture your keyboard and mouse.

Please watch this video, for a visual explanation of the challenge:

SOLIDWORKS 9th Weekly Power User Challenge (July 31st, 2017): Interface in Your Face - YouTube

COMPETITIONS:

There will be 4 (four) separate competitions:

4. Free Modeling Contest (for designers - do the job fast)

For the Free Modeling - The New Generation - Contest (First video posted, showing a user completing the challenge while holding a baby):

1. One prize of 5000 points, in support of new parents who are also SOLIDWORKS Power-Users, but cannot participate in the other events, because they need to hold the baby.

2. Extra 1000 points for each extra baby held while completing the challenge (for parents who have twins or multiples).

General Rules:

1. Watch this video: SOLIDWORKS 9th Weekly Power User Challenge (July 31st, 2017): Interface in Your Face - YouTube

2. Download the PDF of the model you need to create (attached). The SOLIDWORKS 2017 model was also attached.

3. Start with a default Part-inch template. You can have the origin and the 3 planes.

4. Position the camera to capture your screen, keyboard and mouse interactions.

5. Using only the keyboard and mouse, build the model, using the features shown in the video.

Cut-Extrude1 is suppressed in the No Cut configuration.

All sketches are fully defined

Use the minimum number of dimensions, no more than 3 (three).

6. Post your raw video and the SOLIDWORKS file in this thread as an attachment, or as a link. Please indicate if your entry satisfies the rules for the Visual Contest. I would appreciate if you would include your time, as per your calculations.

7. Do not use macros or library features.

8. The timing will be judged based on your video timeline:

  • The clock starts when you perform the interaction (keyboard or mouse) on the opened part.
  • The clock stops when you finish configuring the part with all features presented.
  • To make things smoother, please mentioned the time you estimated in the same post as your entry.

9. For the purpose of winning point awards, you can submit as many videos as you want until August 13th 2017, at midnight. After that, feel free to continue to submit videos to establish new records.
