Hi everyone,

First post on the SW forums.

I have a pin (that could be seen as a shear pin, diameter is 24 mm) in a hole across a shaft (diameter is 50 mm). The pin is located in a housing and should be strong enough to hold the shaft when a force is applied (see the picture in the attached files).

My theorical calclations for shear stress of the pin show good results (SF of around 4), but my concerne is the contact point between the pin and the hole in the shaft. As you can see in the second picture, the stress goes as high as 3000 MPa.

I tried different mesh size, different radis, different analysis parameter, but I always get those results (or similar ones).

My question is, should I be worried? Will plastic deformation occur in one of those components (AISI 440C)? What can I do to lower the Von Mises stresses at this contact point?

It is probably stress concentration related, but I can't find any information to help me with that...

Thank you!
