Creating an add-in based on a recorded macro

I am new to SW API and I would like to develop an add-in that has a user interface and automates a process. I thought it would be a good idea to record a macro first, save it as a SW VSTA VB Macro (or VBA?), copy&paste the produced coded into an add-in template and then edit the code accordingly from there.

Do you think that this is a plausible thing to do? Do you have any other ideas that may be more efficient in this case? If this makes sense, are there any tips & tricks that you can share with me?

Thank you in advance!
