I started working on models that have assemblies upon sub assemblies and other assemblies in them. Is there a way to tell the feature tree to keep some of the subassemblies collapsed till you tell it to expand?
You can use Shift+C to collapse the Feature Tree but this will collapse all features. As far as I am aware, I don't believe you can be selective with which ones you choose to collapse or expand as a shortcut. The only way that this can be done is by individual mouse selection I think, but I leave myself to be corrected if someone knows of another way or if I've interpreted your issue wrong.
Dave is correct. Shift C collapses all.
But if you select a single component or sub assembly, or heck anything that can expand at all in the tree, then hit *, it will expand ONLY what you have selected. Then Shift C to bring it all back.
As far as I know Dave Bear is correct.
and I think Glenn Schroeder is correct as well
Dave Bear is correct as well as Glenn as well as Steve as well as Dave.

Polly wants a cracker, but not sure which one of you guy's get the cracker
Thanks for all the input.....just gets kind of frustrating looking for some of them subassemblies and then to find their main assembly in the feature tree. I am on an outdated version of the software and did not know if this was something that SolidWorks had fixed or even considered looking at to help users out....About time to get ready for that next enhancement request......
