How do apply a custom metal forming tool to the edge of sheet metal? I need to make the upper edge of the sheet metal this shape of my die. This shapes the recess of a door jam where the door closes.
are you just applying that to straight edges? If so just use a mitre flange.
If you want it to wrap around a corner, you can use a swept flange.
Forming tools are good for adding features that would be added by a turret punch or similar such as this
Though not exclusively.
Can you post a screenshot? Can't open your file (i have 2016)
Ok, can you please tell me how you did that? I can't for the life of me get that to work. There has to be something I'm doing wrong.
Hi Chris, what sort of shape you trying to get this form around? A quick peak at your profile suggests you maybe wanting to wrap this around the edge of a car door? The swept flange feature doesn't seem to like splines, so you'd need to stick to lines and tangent arcs.
I'm going to assume you're attacking this at 'for fabrication' angle as well. So what is the end process you will be using?
See attached an example of the swept flange. It didn't want to work with the rads on the corners, I think it prefers to add the file specifies bend rads, or you can override them for the feature within the feature manager.
Yes, we actually fabricate this now. If I can add these pictures I'd show you what I mean. This is the rear bed but I'd like to be able to model this in my drawing. I think we are almost there but I just can't get there yet.
It there a curve at the far end of that Chris?
Technically yes there is a curve at the end, however that shape actually fades out and I don't have to model that. If I have to model it I surely will. That wouldn't be a problem.
