We are currently on Solidworks 2017 SP1. We are using an older ERP system. There has been a request to convert our bill of materials over to an ACSII file format. Is this possible?
Have you tried exporting as .txt or .csv files?
I have tried excel and csv files.
Are there any examples of files that do work? Apparently csv and txt files are ascii based. Do you need a specific file extension / format / separators?
I was able to convert to a txt and csv file. The ERP can read it. Now, I need to figure out how to populate just certain fields. It is asking for the revision field, which we do not have in our bill of materials.
Hi Dan, you can easily add column(s) for fields you create. I would get a complete list of the fields you need in which order. Then you can modify your BOM to the same format.
To add a new column to the BOM, hover on the BOM until you get the column/row identifiers. Right click on a column identifier and you can insert a column to either left or right of the one you clicked on.
Then click on the column column identifier you just created, and select column properties
Then you can set the property you're after
Once you have all the column setup correctly, you can save the template by RMB on top left corner of BOM > SAve as
You can then insert that bom template into any drawing or assembly you like.
Unfortunately as far as I know, you can't change the template of an existing BOM.
I know how to modify the bill of materials, adding columns and lines. I need to add some columns and then hide them. Thank you for all your help.
I figured you might, but it's hard to gauge a users proficiency, I'm always either giving someone too much credit, or not enough.
No problem. It was nice talking to you. I glad you were there to help.
As of right now, I am just starting this project. I will check with the ERP person t see if this works.
