If I have a series of parts linked to a common external variable file, and I want to add more variables, what is the correct way to do this?
If I simply go in and edit the text file, the new variables do not automatically show up in all the parts.

Not 100% sure I fully understand, but it sounds like quit a bit of work if I have to do that to say 30 parts that all share a global variable text file every time I add or rename a variable.

I'm not sure if all 30 parts will work fine if use txt file as linking tools.
I use direct links between variables if need to link variables between components in assembly.
First unlink equations and .txt file, then add variables in a part using Equation Manager, test the result, update your .txt file and link all back.
