How do I delete a blank view that comes up when I first open a composer .smg that I am working on?

i think, your smg file starts in Animation-mode.

Have a look to the upper left Corner in the viewport. You will see the filmstrip Picture.

You can change it in the document-properties and the Deafult document-properties. Open Project and activate View-mode!

Change this also in Standard-Document-properties!
