I put a file on google drive, go to the iPad and edrawings isn't an option when I try "OPEN IN"
Seems like it should be straight forward, but of course it's not.

Please forgive me asking an obvious question - has the edrawing app been installed on the I-Pad? In the android world there is a free version and a "premium" version.
I don't believe that Apple allows links to Google Drive but they do to Dropbox. To beat that I emailed the file to myself and opened the attachment from the email. Later you can open them directly from the app as they save into your memory.
I was worried it might be a GoogleDrive integration issue. Absurd. I don't want to install email or another (e.g. dropbox) on the ipad. But I guess I should give it a try to eliminate that possibility.
