How to link dimensions from a drawing to another part.

I'm making an assembly that has 3 parts, each one within the other one. For example, one rectangular sketch is extruded into a block and then using the shell feature, extruded outward. The next sketch has the same dimensions as the outside feature of the shell. I'd like to be able to link the outline of the shell with the sketch, and be able to modify the first sketch, or shell thickness as needed.

I've already looked into the equation manager, and it seems like I cannot directly link the outside dimensions of the shell with the next sketch. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm surprised there is no way to do this.
