How can I add equations in distance mate? I want to add equation with other dimensions in distance mate.
I like using global variables because you can update all key dimensions in one place.
Let's start with parts:
Go to Equations > Manage Equations and add a global variable (Length) and give it a value ( = 100).
Add another global variable Width) and create an equation (say = Length / 2). Evaluates to will show 50.
Now create a sketch rectangle. Dimension the horizontal by typing = and picking from the global variable drop down list.(Length). Do the same for the vertical dimension but choose Width.
Now if you later want to change the size of the rectangle, just go to Equations and make your change.
When it comes to distance mates I use equations in the assembly. Say create a global variable Gap = 10.
When I distance mate two parts, SolidWorks doesn't let me type = and select a global variable. So type in any number (say 5) and complete the mate.
Now open the mate folder in the feature tree and double click on that mate. The mate dimension is now visible in the window. You will notice a blue ball under the dimension number. Double click on that and the Modify equation dialog box appears. Now type = and select that global variable.
