I want to link sketch text to configuration specific properties. In this way I would have different sketch text for different configurations. An example would be a different part number for a part for different configuration

What version of Solidworks are you using?
I think that Deepak may be saying this very same thing, but in case he is not:
The only way I could get it to work was to create a custom property for my configurations, then link my text to that.
Hi Deepak,
What I understood from Gerald's original question was how to link Sketch Text to a "configuration specific property". I just ran across the same issue, and Sketch Text doesn't seem to respect configuration specific properties, it only references the file "custom properties" (I.e. the "@ tab"). For example, entering "$PRP:"Number" - "D2@Sketch1"in Dia" in the Text Field shows the "HTDM-P-017" instead of the configuration specific value of "HTDM-P-017-3".
Is this a feature or a bug?

Hi Deepak, I never considered the possibility of using Configuration Specific properties without a Custom Property of the same name. The only thing that might be an issue is the "($EvalError$)" if a corresponding Custom Property isn't there to default to. As a side issue, I've wanted a way to specifically choose between 'Configuration Specific' and 'Custom' properties for a long time now.
Thanks for showing me how it's done!
Click on link property and then pick the desired property form drop down list
