I've been searching this answer for more than 3 hours and still no luck. Does anyone know if Properties builder have any expression for the description in the configuration properties? As shown in the picture:
There isn't a simple solution but read this - Link to Property suffixes, Configuration Description
Just wanted to know if there a simple way of doing this? eg. $PRP:"SW-Configuration Name" which could link to Configuration description.
What are you trying to achieve Bou-Yea?
Here's a thread that has a similar issue which may be of interest How to Use Configuration Description in Configuration Specific Property
As Tateos states, there's no a simple way of linking into the configuration manager description field.
If you want to use the custom properties tab to enter configuration specific descriptions, in the tab builder, select the description field and set to to configuration specific. You can do this to make any property configuration specific.
I'm a beginner in solidworks and what I've been told is that it has to be done in configuation specific properties but I felt it was not easy. For example, when I put in a configuration name, at the bottom of that, I'll put in the configuration description in this case, this configuration description will also represent the name of the part. I want this name to be automatically inserted in the properties tab so when I generate the drawing, the configuration description will be used as the part name. What I'm trying to achieve is using something like $PRP:"SW-Configuration Name" on the properties tab so it's easier to manage instead of writing it many times in both configuration description and configuration specific. I'm worried when i change something, I might forget to change either one of them. Not sure if my understanding of how it works is correct though.
This is an old thread but though I would share another method because I'm doing the it now for the exact same reason.
It's an oversight on solidworks part not to make this more streamline, but there is a work around that at least keeps it updated if the configuration description changes, and allows using the property to fill out description in a drawing title block by linking properties.
1) Insert a Design Table
2) make sure the configuration description is listed in the table, if not type "$DESCRIPTION" in blank row 2, then close and re-open the design table to populate configuration descriptions
3) in next open row 2 heading type "$prp@description" Then below in row 3 link to configuration description =B2 in example.
This will automatically load configuration description in custom properties and will update with conf desc changes.
