Currently the Material box on the drawing pulls the info from the part's file properties if entered. Is there a way to have it read from the design tree instead?
Select "Material" from the value drop down list.
Delete the custom property "Material"?
Holy crap. I've been typing in that darned box for 10+ years and never noticed it was a drop down. I knew the other one was, but not this one. LMAO.
Thanks Dan Pihlaja !!

LOL. I love moments like these.
I literally JUST had one of my own.
Alin Vargatu just told me about free drag with the mouse in assemblies....
LMB is translate and RMB is rotate.....I never knew that. LOL
You can set that property in your part template (and many other properties) and can enjoy more
Ok, now you're starting to creep me out... How did you know I was off playing with my templates trying to do exactly that while you were typing it? LMAO!
Question about that: When I set the drop down to Material it uses the template name. Will that automagically translate to the current part's name or is there something else I need to do?
That would automatically update to the model file name
You may be wondering why I suggested above to just delete the custom property. In my Drawings my title block notes are driven from the Drawing Properties, not Model Properties, and when I do need a note calling out Material I have it linked to the drawing view. In that case I reference MATERIAL, which is automatically generated when I set the Material in the tree. So I've never needed to create a custom material in the Part and link it like you're doing.
In property tab builder I have us set up to either select the material from the Solidworks Material list OR they type in a user defined note and, depending on which they select, it will populate the material field of the custom properties list. Then I use that as my material in my notes in the drawing.
