I'm drawing a blank here.
I have a table that will go under a machine I'm designing. I want the table to look like wood (I want to see wood grain).
I have applied unfinished Japanese oak to my part.
The table turns brown but I don't see the grain. (see attached)
I hope someone can help me.

Designing with wood everyday, that's what I happen to do - the wood grain that you used doesn't show till you render it...
You will need to adjust the mapping as well..
Where did you get the Japanese Oak from? If you pick the wood grain appearances from the SW library then it shows right away
It shows when realview is on also.

I did indeed drag and drop from the standard SW library. I just can't see the grain.
Help...
What version of Wood are you using, What happened the night before this morning or you using fresh up to date wood?
Actually go up to the first selection and go from there, I see now which one you picked... If you want it a little different color, you can adjust that as well...

Here are a few snap shots of how I apply the wood grain
Make the selection
Apply it to the part
Right click any face
Click the appearance
Opens the dialog box - go to the Mapping Tab and select Planer Mapping
Axis Direction select Current View
Brings up the control box
Select the yellow dot and adjust the grain direction
Adjust the box for smaller or larger grain
Set the rotation a little "Off" of parallel to give it more of a natural look

John, Thank you. I did learn a few things. I really appreciate the tutorial.
I did all your steps and just couldn't see any grain. No matter how I fiddled.
So,
I tried a different flavor of oak and the grain is there. Seems the unfinished Japanese oak is broken with no grain.
It works now.

Just a side note....
If you plan to use Visualize to render the final product, don't use the appearance there, Visualize applies appearance in Zones and it's much more difficult to adjust and blend.. For the best render apply the appearance in each individual part level just like I explained above and the final render will look like the real thing, if your lighting and reflections are adjusted, etc..
